If you haven’t heard of NOBULL yet, you are hearing about it now.
I stumbled across this company while scrolling through Instagram. I follow Ben Bergeron (owner of CrossFit New England, and husband to my first CrossFit girl crush, Heather Bergeron.) He had posted a sneak peak of a pair of the NOBULL Trainers and I was intrigued.
For roughly the first three years of my CrossFit journey I had worn Inov8’s. They were low profile enough that I could lift AND run in them during wods, and they also fit my weirdo feet that are narrow through the laces and giant in the toe box. I used to think I was a freak. Now I know I’m not the only one. This was before version 1-5 of the Reebok Nano had been introduced. I’ve tried Nanos various times over the years and they never fit right. The toe box is too big, so my foot spreads out, and quite frankly… they are uncomfortable to run in, even at short distances.
So when I stumbled upon the NOBULL booth at the Northwest Regional, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only were the guys working the booth awesome, the product was too.
I happened to be working media, so I would run over during a short break and try the shoe on, have to go back to work, then get another break so I could go figure out the price and order them… they were very patient with me, to say the least.
I ended up biting the proverbial bullet and ordering the limited edition camo (because… duh…)
After a little wait time (they got SLAMMED with orders at the regional events) mine were delivered and I immediately tore in to them and put them on… and my little piggies breathed a sigh of relief.
The specs on the shoes are amazing. One piece seamless upper (no rubbing in weird places… bonus….) with what they call a Superfabric (little tiny ceramic beads that make the fabric extra durable, but still flexible) that is water replant (no more getting soaked in other “minimalist” shoes.)
And here’s the best part… the FEEL GREAT! There is enough support to feel good on runs during wods, but they are also flexible enough for box jumps and other plyometric training. I have even worn them exclusively for weightlifting to test it out and they are super solid. My heel felt supported and didn’t “squish” down while lifting heavy weights.
The NOBULL philosophy is that gimmicks in your shoes or apparel won’t make you fitter. Only you can do that. And they are here to supply you with gear that will stand up to the test of a hard working athlete.
These shoes definitely get my stamp of approval! They told me I would wear out the soles of the shoes long before I could destroy the tops, so I plan on putting them to the test!
